Calgary and Real Estate
Tanya and her husband didn’t just visit Calgary—they settled there, purchasing a home on May 20, 2022. Their journey to homeownership has been fascinating.
In her posts, Tanya explained why they chose to buy a house rather than rent and why they decided on Calgary, Alberta.
- Affordable Prices
Tanya highlighted that Calgary offers some of the most affordable housing prices compared to cities like Toronto and Vancouver. Similar houses in Calgary cost almost half as much. - Investment Potential
They viewed the purchase as a way to preserve and grow their savings, considering real estate a smart investment. - Family Planning
Tanya’s desired pregnancy played a role in their decision. Their daughter, Kira, was born in Canada and received Canadian citizenship.
Tanya also observed that Calgary’s real estate market moves quickly. Listings rarely last more than a month, and successful buyers often pay above asking price or offer cash. Their future home was on the market for only eight days before they secured it. This demand often drives prices higher.
Beyond affordability, Calgary appealed to the couple with its breathtaking natural beauty, located just an hour’s drive from the city. Known as one of Canada’s sunniest cities, Calgary offers a family-friendly atmosphere.
On June 3, 2022, the couple purchased an apartment in Downtown Calgary, which they began renting out. That same month, they bought a car to facilitate travel. In addition to the apartment, they rent out their basement—a common practice that helps cover utility costs.
By the end of March 2023, they acquired another apartment in Calgary, and a month later, they invested in the construction of a new condo set to begin in 2024.
On June 5, 2022, Tanya also established a company in Alberta.

Life in Calgary
Previously living in Dubai, the couple made the leap to Calgary for the reasons mentioned above. Despite the challenges of immigration, they successfully settled in.
Within the first two days, they obtained work permits, phone numbers, tax identification numbers, and health insurance. Their next steps included choosing a bank and ordering debit and credit cards.
Following Tanya’s journey felt like watching an Instagram reality series. Remarkably, this was the couple’s sixth immigration. Each move and new country brought unique experiences, with its own pros and cons.
Tanya shared that the minimum critical budget for a childless couple moving to Calgary is $15,000, assuming they begin working immediately.
On May 16, 2023, Tanya celebrated their one-year anniversary in Canada.
Through her posts, Tanya provides a daily glimpse into life in Calgary, covering costs, living conditions, and the beauty of the city. Her stories create a sense of being there, and her followers feel inspired by the comfort and opportunities Calgary offers.
